Seven Points
Hi there! Today's topic just kind of appeared to me, just popped into my head, just came about, if you will. I actually heard some girls talking about the "seven point" scale (or system, depending on who you talk to), and I thought I'd dig into what that looks like. I know not everyone knows what this, so let me explain, because of course this is a topic I LOVE!
There are many different variations to this topic. Some people say eight points, some say seven, and some people even say five. Seven points is just what I have read about first and the one that tends to stick to my style the best.
The Seven Point System: Explained
The seven point system is based on how many things you add to your basic three point outfit. Meaning, one point for a shirt, one point for pants, and one point for shoes. All the necessities add up to your basic three points! Adding any type of accessory adds a point to your outfit. So let's say I add a belt with my top somewhat tucked in, that's a point. Now my outfit is a four point outfit. For me, I typically try to hit seven points for most of my outfits. There is no limit to how many points your outfit can have. I don't really like going over ten points, because for me (a very much minimalist) I get overwhelmed. I want to wear my outfit, I don't want my outfit to wear me. But I do know some people whose mindset is 'the more the merrier' but with accessories. Whichever way fits the style you have, or the style you want, or just the style you want to try out for the day!!
Some Options, to get you started
I want to compile a list of possible points! This means any, all, or any combination of these things can elevate your outfit in some way. No matter how simple the accessory is, a point is a point. Everything adds something!
• a scarf (duh, I had to put this one, top of the list for me)
• any type of jewelry (all jewelry counts as one point)
• a headband (which is great for the fall; cooler weather)
• cutesy socks with your boots, or any type of shoes, really
• sunglasses! (this one always gets forgotten)
• a classic watch (I know this is considered a piece of jewelry, but it had to make the list)
• a chunky belt!
• wearing an article of clothing not necessarily how it's supposed to be worn (meaning a cardigan tied around your neck, or something to that extent)
• a hat (this one always scares me because I'm not used to working with it, but I know it's not scary really! I just need more practice)
• fixed hair (I feel like this one should be added to the three necessities, but I know that some girls have a love hate relationship with their hair! But I do think a solid slick-back or a blowout always adds something to the look; elevates it really)
• a different color (I usually like to do this as an undershirt with a big sweater over it; just so the color will peak through around the collar)
Is this Something for Me?
This is just a short, quick little list that can be added to to fit your style. This just goes to show how awesome fashion truly is. You are the only person that has the power to decide whether or not something looks good with your outfit. Only you!!! As my good friend, Maci, always says, "comparison is the thief of joy." In this context, don't compare your outfits to the outfits of other people. As a teenage girl, I know first hand that this can be extremely hard. Always remember that adding accessories shows off your style in every way. But if your style is the basic, three point, outfit, more power to you! You know that is your style and you are confident in it. I will say though, that it's always fun to try new things. If you ever are feeling bold, you should always try to add a point to your outfit. If you decide that you hate it, no worries! This one small thing will not make or break your outfit! I promise.
I always love sharing some fun facts and knowledge with you and I hope to do it again sometime! If you have any fashion questions, just let me know! I loveeeee talking about it. No like literally, I could talk about this forever!
with love always,
Charli
