Back to the basics
Hiiiiii! I know it's starting to seem a little repetitive- starting every blog with "it has been so long since I've had time to write." But, here I am again, saying the same thing. The blog has always been a creative outlet for me. Getting to write, especially about something that I love, always recharges my brain. So let's do this! A new semester! A new year in college! A new routine! But, we're going back to the basics!
As I've grown in my fashion sense over the past years, I've learned a lot. A lot about comfort vs cuteness, casual vs classy, the list could go on. But in most recent years, I've found that basics are the best, for everyday wear, of course. There is a certain aesthetic that drives home the 'basics' look. It's all about colors, patterns, and textures (subtle plug for my last blog). Not necessarily about 'basic' clothing.
This consists of logoless, neutrals that you can mix and match for every single day. This is not to say that logos are bad. For example, the PARKE brand, and inherently the logo, has taken over. You can't go two hours without seeing one of their classic sweatshirts- at least on a college campus. BUT, the thing about PARKE that everyone loves (whether they like to admit it or not) is the color combinations, it's simplicity, and the way it fits. This is mainly how PARKE's brand blew up! It's all about the basics!
If you know me, you know I LOVE a good solid color. I love mixing colors within my outfit to make the perfect color scheme. I love doing it all. This is where I get to strive. My jeans are all classic denim. My shorts are all neutrals (with the occasional deep red or navy). My cardigans are all light blues, whites, and greys. I have a pattern that I love to follow, but that doesn't mean that I don't have fun pieces in my closet too. That's for another blog, though! The thing about basics is simple. No matter how you match your solid color shirt with you solid color shorts, you will look put together. You will look like you casually just threw on this outfit (because you did), but there will be intentionality behind it, and it shows. Same with jeans and a cardigan!
The basics are always fun and easy. I like to suggest having lots of basics in your closet so you always have something to wear to every event- going to class, going on a date, Sunday morning church, etc.
Accessories
I talk about accessories a lot within my blog. I think that's because accessories can make or break the outfit (which I know I've said a thousand times). Taking your simple basics and adding jewelry or a scarf or a belt or a sweater tied over your shoulders or doing an updo with your hair, literally anything can be an accessory. This is where you are allowed to have fun with your basics. I encourage you to put your personality within your outfit.
With this outfit, I took my classic denim colored jeans and paired them with a basic tank and a short sleeve cardigan. BUT! This is where the accessories come in. By adding a belt and a scarf, the outfit is elevated to not be as basic as the necessities (a shirt and pants)!
The thing about fashion is that it's fairly simple. You have the opportunity to do whatever you what with your closet and you can call it fashion- because it is!
Anyways, I love writing about things like this and I genuinely have fun with it. The concept of 'basics' has always been something that I love and something I wear constantly. Until next time I have some spare time to write!
with love always,
Charli
